Seeing is Believing

Perhaps this should have gone under the "Ineffective Arguing" post, but I feel it deserves it's own post. (THat, and I don't feel like going back and revising it) People are creatures of the senses. For a lot of people they feel that, if I can't feel it with one of my senses, it doesn't exist. People are also incredible at deluding themselves that one thing looks onw way, when in reality, it's completely different. Take, for example, a woman who believes her son can do no wrong: "He's a good boy, he's a good boy, he's a good boy....WHAT?! What do you MEAN he was just arrested for selling cocaine?!" There is a terrific example of someone who bleinds themselves to what's right in front of them. Perhaps the saying should be, "Believing is seeing." It always amazes me the extant to which people can fool themselves.

so true...ever have one of those kids in your bunk in camp, or have to babysit them? the mother swears the kid can do know wrong, and the child is sticking out her tongue behind her mom's back and you know the second the mom walks out the door the little monster will emerge...

and then there are those who put on academy award winning performances and delude others. So the person is not deluding themselves, someone is deluded them. Same result, different neurosis.
