Where do dreams come from?

I've heard several theories, but the one that makes the most sense to me, and explains a great deal of my dreams (though not all of them) is that dreams are your thoughts throughout the day, put into some sort of order. Considering the types of books I read (mainly fantasy and some scifi) that explains a great deal about some dreams. Others...I'm not sure what i was thinking that day. I also have different categories for my dreams, the magic ones (where it either works or doesn't), my "videogame" dreams, in which the entire feel of the dream is like I'm in a video game. In one of those types, president Bush was there. As a mermaid. In a helicopter. That would be one of those "what the...? was I thinking" moments. Historical dreams...I try to collect a bounty on Stalin...that kind of thing. I rarely have nice quiet, there's nothing happening dreams. Mine are usually action packed. No wonder I'm so tired when I wake up. There are a few others, though I can't think of them at the moment. Ah well.
Hopefully I'll think of something else to post later. In the meantime, Mike, does that answer your question?

You don't want to know the physiological answer to that one.
