Are You British?

I've gotten asked that question a few times recently. The answer is no, I'm not. Never even been to England. But I have a tendency to speak a bit fast, and my vocabulary is sprinkled with british terms. Like "bum" instead of "a$$" or "bloody hell" or "bugger" and probably some others I'm not even aware of. I blame that on the fact that alot of the books I read are by british authors. Like Terry Pratchett, JK Rowling, Diana Wynne Jones....but I'd have to say it's Pratchett that had the biggest effect. It's really amazing how reading can expandyour vocabulary.

That is so true. I find that the fact that I read an enormous amount has expanded my vocabulary. Not that I can spell any of the words, but that really doesn't matter does it?

I can spell most of the words in my vocabulary, my stepfather often asks me to spell a word for him. Though some people complain that I use too many big words, or words they don't understand. Can't please everyone.

An American saying bum and bugger wont make them sound British no matter how fast you talk. I dont even understand how anyone could ask that.

That's a really good point. That's why I have to be careful with what I read, I don't want to start cursing... Additionally, it's a great way to improve my vocabulary! I should start reading again, for fun this time since I'm out of school for the summer :-/
